EYEmergencyMD seeks Federally Qualified Health Care Centers and Look Alikes with whom to partner in attacking the preventable blindness caused by ocular manifestations of chronic diseases such as Diabetes Mellitus, Hypertension, and Sickle Cell Disease.

According to the 2010 Global Burden of Disease Study, Diabetic eye disease is the fifth leading cause of blindness worldwide. This number could be significantly impacted by instituting screening protocols at the most convenient point of care: the primary care physician’s office.

Adding a screening program would add a minimum quantity of time and required man power, but has the potential to detect nearly 90% of those with retinopathy that is treatable, according the British studies where screening programs have been underway for many years. The coincident decreased burden on the healthcare system would also be significant.

The total economic burden of eye disorders and vision loss from all causes according to a report put out by the NORC at the University of Chicago is estimated to be $139 billion based on the 2011 US population and 2013 economics.
